science children Good children's science books sought -- Help?
Hi - I'm looking for good science books for children, and I'm hoping you can help.  They need to be in print, NOT text books, and a preference is given to those books published in 1993, although older books are welcome as well. The information I need will be:         _title_, author         Why it's a good science book for kids         What kind of book is it (story using science, book about experiments,                 encyclopedia _style_ book,m etc.) Why do I need this?  My mother will be discussing science books on NPR's Talk of the Nation on December 3.  When she did this last year, a number of questions came in about children's books.  Since her field is adult science writing, she asked me to investigate what there is in the K-8 domain. (She figures that in high school most kids who are interested in science are reading in the adult section of the library.  Feel free to correct us if necessary!) Please respond by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it  If there is interest I will summarize the replies and post them. If you want to hear (or tape) the show, call your local NPR station for details about when it airs in your neighborhood.  Phillip Morrision will be sharing the discussion with her.  My mother's name is Bettyann Kevles, since I neglected to mention it earlier. Thanks for any advice you can offer!
