The scope I'm considering is a Leupold 3x9 compact. Any comments on the Leupold 3x9 compact scope? Leupold scopes are (IMHO) the best Am. made scope for the $. I have a 2.5-8 zoom on my HK-91 and it has served me very well.  It gets carried around a lot and takes quite a bit of abuse, riding around in the back of a jeep on rough roads, etc.  It gave me no problems for about 4 yrs.  Finally after a particularly rough trip in the Panamints in California, some of the internal elements came loose.  Zoom scopes are always fragile, an important fact to keep in mind.  Luckily, Leupold scopes carry a LIFE-TIME WARRANTY which really works.  For the cost of postage, they replaced all the elements, re-sealed it... good as new! I also have a Nikon 4x which I like a lot.  The image quality is better than the Leupold (due to the double coating on the optics) but you pay the price. For a target scope, I would choose the Nikon
