It sure would be nice to be able to zip into different rooms . Maybe places that shared info about gatherings and dates and related info/comments?   Another talking about communities - or - rides and caravansplaces - or - the regs - or - spamming! - or - something on how to spred rainbow at gatherings (like dwight mentioned, and others HO'd. ..............  anyways, you know, like the home page.   Wouldn't that be better than just thowing everything in one big pile for everybody to sort out? After all, this is cyberspace isn't it??????     Yep. When you think about it, the argument to only have one list is pretty silly. Anyway, here's my own *personal* plans for more cyberspace stuff.         1. Conferencing:                 I've been playing with irc and various web chat                 software. I plan to eventually setup a full-time                 interactive kindof chat room. I'm not that happy with                 most chat software, it's all pretty much crap. So... I                 recently joined forces with the Community Memory                 project (actually started by some Diggers) , the                 world's first Community network setup for normal folks,                 the homeless, etc... in Berkeley in 1967. They just                 finally closed their doors for good, and they gave me                 *all* their BBS software. I'm currently re-writing it                 to run on a Linux (unix) machine.  When that's done,                 it'll give us a decent interface for folks on ancient                 machines to conference, send email, and grab files. The                 main idea of this is to lower the level of technology                 required to access RainbowNet to allow more folks                 to join in.         2. MUD - Virtual Reality:                 Another thing I'm playing with is to setup a multi-user                 dungeon . I met Pavel, the father of all MUD software                 last year, and he convinced me that this would be way                 cool.  I got all his software (it's free) and I've been                 starting to setup a virtual world . (all text _base_d)                 I'm gonna program it to have the map of the NM                 gathering... The idea is that folks could be walking                 along the trail and step into a room and talk to                 folks, get files, etc... I'm not 100% sure how it'll                 all work till I get there...   My ideas are to broaden the discussions. While I like the idea of a main list for info, (the current list/newsgroup) I also think that much discussion is social in nature, and could be elsewhere. The idea of walking up a virtual trail and stepping into a virtual kitchen or camp I like. There I see little discussions forming, friendships developing, etc... All of this I think will make cyberspace a fun place to hang out. [flame suit on]   Just incase my future developments upset some folks, I'm sorry to say too bad . While I feel that the current list needs consensuses to change, I feel as an indivigual I can do *anything* I want. I like hacking on all this neat software, and I plan to see how others think about it too. But all the arguments that these extensions are horrible, stupid, evil, etc.. will be tottally ignored. [flame suit off]         - rob - btw - anyone interested in helping me hack all this in existance, please email me. It's getting so I don't have time anymore to get my real work done. I'll give ya an account on welcomehome.org.
