There is a difference between right and wrong.  Letting something wrong go on is also wrong, in my view. I cant find a single person, including the young people in my household, who thinks letting sexual predation go unchecked, is right. Kids may scoff that we cant control them, but we do influence them very stongly.  Not taking this seriously is a terrible example. Getting the girl out of town or the state helps her not at all. It just helps the boy get away with his bad behavior, ditto the mom.  MOM is responsible for her juvenile raping a child. Anyone who knows about this sort of thing without saving the 12 year old is allowing evil to occur.   Any therapist who laughs at the thought of the authorities taking care of an innocent child who is being abused and raised very badly should have his license yanked - oh, he isnt licensed is he?  I cant believe he has any credentials whatever - is he one of those church-_base_d counselors who have no legal obligation to report a dangerous situation? if he cant even tell right from wrong, how is he going to help his patients? And I dont mean just the hand holding, there-there type of help, the hot tea and the positive strokes, (which we all need, with balance) I mean teaching his patients how to live well and to be strong.  Life is hard and there are hard decisions to be made.  If the therapist cant even make those decisions, how can he help others?   Telling us to be quiet about it is just trying to CONTROL this situation.  Sorry, Jeannie, you had the impulse to do the right thing - you were even OK with going through the kids stuff - until others talked you out of it.  You wanted something done - otherwise why did you ask?   Why didnt you handle it yourself?   You received what you asked for - God answered you after all!  Whether you listen or not is up to you. Not your so-called therapist or so-called friends who tell you hiding under the covers, letting your son off the hook for heinous behavior, and shipping the girl out of town is OK. Best, Marie
