Hello, this is a message for the next talk we have in the Psychological Society. We will not meet on Tuesday but on Thursday. The talk will be given by Mary Cairns, a local practicing psychotherapist. Her background is general nursing, followed by a Psychology Degree here at UKC. Then she was trained in psychotherapy followed by the MA here in Psychoanalytic studies. Thus, she has been attached to three different faculties in this uni;all approaching psychology from a different view point. She works at a department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and in a department of Mental Health. She has a small private practice, and an interest in running groups. She teaches on the Psychodynamic psychotherapy training course here at UKC, and runs a group on the Counselling Diploma and offers supervision to other practising psychotherapists. So far to Mary Cairns area, in the talk she will define Psychotherapy, and trace its historical origins, before describing her particular speciality which is Psychodynamic psychotherapy. She will refer briefly to theory, before attempting to give us a picture of her work, with some examples. So come and join us, bring friends, the talks are not restricted to psychology students.
