karen silkwood Your thoughts for a local newspaper
Hello SLO County Folks (and points elsewhere), In an attempt to get the views of the residents of our beautiful central coast, we at The Bay Breeze, a community newspaper _base_d in Los Osos thought we'd try and solicit some thoughts through a few of the local newsgroups. It's strickly a test, but it would go something like this: We post a question or topic, then save the responses and print them in the paper (well... the printable responses at least). It sounds fun... it should make interesting reading... and, by golly, it just might work. Our next deadline is this Wednesday, August 25. So we can accept responses up until then. TOPIC: The Morro Bay Harbor Festival is coming up October 2-3. Do you have any thoughts on the festival? Some tips? Stories? Etc... Feel free to leave your name and city or remain anonymous. You can post your response here or e-mail us at: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it If this works, we'll be seeking your input in the future. Much Thanks ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There was a knock on the door and a giant Samoan bounded into the room, shouting Aloha! Aloha! and waving a huge negro shinbone. Welcome to the islands, he boomed. My name is Maurice. Here's your weapon.

Oooops... please ignore that Thompson quote at the end of that prior posting. It's leftover from a previous post to a Hunter Thompson newsgroup. If you're interested, it's from his book The Curse of Lono ... very funny. Thanks, BB

Well my question is how wide is the reading group of this news group. And what type of people are reading the slo.* groups? Are they just a group of 15 people who use the net a lot or are there 100's of people who like to read and not ever post. It sounds like a good plan but I'm just curious to how much feedback will be recieved. And i've never heard of the habor festival. =8/

TOPIC: The Morro Bay Harbor Festival is coming up October 2-3. Do you have any thoughts on the festival? Some tips? Stories? Etc... The harbor festival is a pox on the residents of Morro Bay. Every year the inhabitants of this town have to endue traffic jams and rude drivers from other areas that disregard pedestrian cross walks crossing just so they can save 5 seconds on their trip back to where they came from. The police department should have a sobriety check point just before the on-ramps to test these obviously inebriated drivers and lock them up. Best tip is to stay away and if you have to visit our community below the belching smokestacks visit mid week rather than during the festival. Why? Well not only will you be clipped $$ just to get into the parking lot festival, you will then be clipped on any purchase and be short changed by smaller portions and having to endure endless lines. Much worse than meal call at college campus eateries. The weather more than likely will be miserable. Our friends from North Carolina at Duke Power will be there selling more smoke stacks and hoping the gullible residents will approve the expansion of the facility with lower smoke stacks that will spray the town with way more stack droppings than the existing 3 monoliths. They'll have their digitally altered pictures showing how nice it will be with only two big stacks and 2 small stacks pumping acid fog into our town. They naturally will underplay the noise the additional 2 power generators will cause since they will be the most economical power they will be generating a mega hmmm running at full bore 24 hours a day 7 days a week. The two new stacks will have a more dense and closer fall out footprint so all residents downwind will be duly sprayed on a continuos basis. Guess we will all again be getting new paint jobs for our cars and watching for airborne pollution caused medical abnormalities in our growing children. Our large senior citizen community will also suffer especially those with respiratory problems. Festival parking will be a nightmare and traffic will be worse than Santa Rosa and Higuera at rush hour in SLO. Why?? Because the same bayside merchants that want and support this festival are the same ones that want to keep traffic snarled. How you ask, well its simple. They vehemently oppose the Coleman drive bridge which would eliminate the traffic nightmare at both the Main Street and MB Blvd exits. This same bridge would provide a safe way for half the cities kids to walk or ride bicycles to MB high school. But wait you say, how about Dukes new bridge by the freeway... well what about it? Its not going to solve any traffic problems and as for being a safe way for our kids to reach the school... well its through a dense area of undergrowth right by the freeway where it will be easy for transient types to hide and prey on passing teens. All I can say is I hope our overworked and underpaid police force will do daily sweeps of that area to keep it safe for our kids. So what will the Harbor festival provide besides traffic, increased noise and exhaust pipe facials? Hmmm I think the answer is simple, it will again provide the local merchants a way to skin $ off visitors.
