Indemnity Ordinance 1975 is repealed and this ends a black chapter in our history. I wish the opposition BNP, instead of boycotting parliament, had shown the political maturity to take part in repealing this balck ordinance. IMHO that would have been a definite plus for them. I also hope that the government tables the bill that proposes separation of judiciary from executive. I learned a few weeks ago from AMITECH that the bill would be placed before this (Nov.) session of Parliament. He said the BNP government of Begum Khaleda Zia had given an assurance to repeal the ordinance but a bill submitted by Mohammad Nasim, then Chief Whip of the Opposition, was not even introduced in Parliament. Speaker Humayun Rashid Chowdhury suspended the remaining business of the day as the House had passed the bill in a sober atmosphere, and adjourned the session till 4.15 PM on November 19.
