derrida Derrida & those deconstructionists
Ah yes, Derrida. I've actually flung his books across the room. But I know exactly what you mean about the changing of language. First noticed that when I read Heidegger back in the 70's (can't read him anymore since I learned he was  a Nazi), and then Merleau-Ponty (ever run across him?). And then all those deconstructionists. Hated them at first, but then didn't. Never thought of a spear, but *the abyss* looked good. Hi Jack, Yes, well what is it with Derrida?  Does he intentionally try to drive one insane, or is it that he just keeps stripping away the onion-_layer_s of language to show us that as the Buddhists and the quantum physicists are saying, there *is* nothing there at the root of all our ideals and values?  Or is he just trying to force us to realize how far from the source we have strayed, building subterfusions of words until we no longer have that connection with the numinous? Yes, flinging his books across the room helped but it wasn't enough.  I kept thinking if I ever run across him in the wild, a spear right through the middle would put an end to all this mental confusion he's caused me!  I mean reading Samuel Beckett can produce the same maddening state of mind but at least Beckett's a poet. It took me a good long while and a very rude professor to convince me to look at Derrida from another perspective.  And while I can appreciate him now, I'll never say reading him is enjoyable. Yes, I've read of Merleau-Ponty but not read him extensively. I have his Aesthetics Reader (comments on works of art).  Are there any _title_s by him you recommend?  I'm interested in what he has to say about memory
