bacopa Bacopa help needed!!!!
Does anyone know enough about Bacopa carolina to tell me why the leaves on mine are disintegrating? They dont turn yellow or brown, they just die and disintegrate. Only the new shoots are affected, the rest of the plant is great. My nitrate recently crashed because of rapid growth of my Water Sprite. NO3 now reads zero. I have added Tetra Helena Crypto to the roots and Flora Pride to the water (the older stuff without iron). I supplement with a trace element product as recommended. I have, simultaneously, Java Ferns with some slight browning of the growth margins, Water Sprite with NO problems whatsoever, and Java Moss which grows slowly but successfully. My feeling is that I may have water too soft for the Bacopa, or insufficient Nitrogen or Potassium. I'm hoping the fertilizer will help. Any suggestions to help prevent this in the future will be appreciated!! My Tank: 20 H 2 18'' Trichromatics CO2 injection pH=6.5 KH=6 degrees GH=60ppm NO3=zero NH=zero PO4=8ppm (from poor carbon, which I've changed to Phos-free) O2 (day)=8-9ppm CO2 (day)=20-30ppm The CO2 depresses the pH about 0.6

: Does anyone know enough about Bacopa carolina to tell me why the leaves : on mine are disintegrating?         Mine did the same, until it was fed with K, NO3- and trace elements. : They dont turn yellow or brown, they just die and disintegrate. Only the : new shoots are affected, the rest of the plant is great. My nitrate : recently crashed because of rapid growth of my Water Sprite. NO3 now : reads zero.         You need _some_ nitrogen available. : I have added Tetra Helena Crypto to the roots and Flora Pride : to the water (the older stuff without iron).         Do you have any idea what is in these? : My feeling is that I may have water too soft for the Bacopa, or : insufficient Nitrogen or Potassium. I'm hoping the fertilizer will help.         Mine grows just fine in very soft water, so I don't think it's that. : PO4=8ppm (from poor carbon, which I've changed to Phos-free)         If it is really 8ppm, I would expect the algae to get completely out of hand!  Do you mean it came _from_ the carbon?  What is Phos-free? it may grab more than phosphate, and cause other problems.
