Hi everyone, These pages cite a lot of thyroid and yersinia enterocolitis research:-   http://www.jorsm.com/~binstock/yersin-2.htm   http://www.jorsm.com/~binstock/yersin.htm Or, if you don't fancy wading through 50+ research summaries, here's my interpretation:- (a) Y.E. is everywhere (dogs can be asymptomatic carriers, etc etc) (b) Some people can be long-term Y.E. carriers (carrying it in abdominal lymph glands and various intestinal and extraintestinal locations ) (c) The Great Smokes microbiology panel (ie, a well-used group of intestinal tests) doesn't appear to identify Y.E. [so Y.E. may be under-reported]. (d) It's been known for 12+ years that Y.E. binds TSH directly (e) lipoproteins for Y.E. contains epitropes that cross-react with the human thyrotrpin receptor (TSHr] (f) Y.E. affects tyrosine phosphorylation (which may possibly be part of its pathogenic strategy) (g) Y.E. can positively be identified by PCR (h) Y.E. is often misdiagnosed as Crohns disease or appendicitis (i) A _link_ between Y.E. and [some? most? all?] Graves Disease has been demonstrated by several studies. My conclusions: (1) given that Y.E. has previously been _link_ed with Graves, it seems a little curious that the recent study also _link_s it with Hashi's - but there you go. :-/ (2) there appears to be a *huge* scope for further clinical studies, especially (as Barry Davis points out) with drugs like low dose Minocin etc... I think this could very well be a *big* area to watch over the next few years. Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....
