Question, If one has a search warrant to search a residence for a small item, say, stash of narcotics, information provided by CI (former girlfriend/roomate/etc).  What are the policies/statutes covering the execution of the search and any resulting damage/loss to the owner of the residence if the damage/loss was caused by the officers during the search, or resulted directly from it.  Providing, of course, the search turns up nothing. In other words, what stops the officers from ransacking a domicile to find evidence?  What recourse would an individual have if the search were fruitless and items were broken or lost ? TIA
