Home School Controversy

Home schooling has been around in its present form for nearly 40 years, is gaining in popularity and is legal in all 50 states. But is it still mired in controversy. Sadly, the home school controversies stems from both ignorance and the self interest of some groups. Talk to parents who are homeschooling their children and you will hear stories of sarcasm, scrutiny, criticism and even that it carries a social stigma for both the parents and the children. The school system and Parent Teacher Associations who feel that home schooling reflects poorly on them, are active in their criticism.

Unfortunately, it is not only schools and PTAs that pass judgment of home schooling. Family, friends and neighbors all chip in with their opinions and since in most cases home schooling is something they have never experienced and have no knowledge of, the advice parents get is almost always negative. People have become conditioned to associate a school – the buildings, classes, labs and gyms – with education. They feel that without the formal physical structure, there can be no educations. They are unable to comprehend that education is a process of transfer and acquiring knowledge and the physical structures only support the process and do not control it. They feel home schooled children are being relocated of what should rightly be given to them. In extreme cases the children are even discriminated against in matter of play and social activities.

Another area of home school controversies is the fact that home school means one parent give up a job and the income from it to stay at home and teach. The argument here goes that the additional income would improve the family's standard of living and would allow the children to go to a "good" school and get a "proper" education.

One area of genuine concern that many people have is that home schooled children are cut off from their peers and will grow up lacking the social skills needed to survive in our modern world or even just to be able to go to college. This is true but to a large extent could be over come by an understanding of what home school is, why the parents have made this choice and support in terms of encouraging social interaction between children going to regular school and home schoolers.

Yet another cause of the home school controversies is the question of extracurricular activities – dramatics, sports, academic competitions and so on. This is one area where the concern is based on, at least to some extent, reality. While some state laws say a home schooled child should be allowed to participate in all activities of the local school board, other states require a child to attend a regular school to be eligible to participate. Whatever the law, the fact remains that a home schooler will not be able to be a member of a school sports team, act in plays and the many other things that a regular school provides. A home schooler also has less opportunity for the normal school high jinks that are very much apart from growing up. Support groups can help to overcome this problem to some extent.

In the end it is for the parents to weigh the pro and cons of home schooling and make their own decision. Home schooling is not a perfect solution, but if society would stop finding reasons against home schooling and instead find way to support families who have opted for home schooling, no one would lose.

Formaldehyde In Your Home

Formaldehyde is a colorless gas compound (HCHO) that is known as a carcinogen, meaning that it causes cancer. It is an allergen that can also irritate your eyes, mucous membranes (eyes, nose and throat) and the upper respiratory system. It can also cause headaches, rashes, hives (blistery, white, and itchy), dizziness, nausea, and chronic fatigue. Some other symptoms include: heart palpitations, ear infections, trouble sleeping, memory loss, trouble focusing, depression, weakness, migraines, abdominal pain, aching joints and muscles, and difficulty breathing. Many doctors may misdiagnose this as a form of stress / anxiety / depression. However, you can understand why this is possible when you understand that formaldehyde is used in many products, including manufacturing fertilizers, dyes, embalming fluid, preservative and disinfectant. Of course, antihistamines are not going to work for you here, even though your sense of smell may become overly sensitive. Neverheless, 1 in 5 people are sensitive to formaldehyde.

Spotting formaldehyde can be difficult since it may be listed under different names. However, it is important to read the product labels and avoid not only formaldehyde itself but also formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. One of the most common names for a formaldehyde-releasing preservative is Quaternium-15. However, there are also numerous other alternative name.

Formaldehyde can be found in hundreds of products, including cosmetics, paper, wood and clothes. Simply touching those products, or just breathing the formaldehyde they release into the air, can cause intestine symptoms. Your best defense is to limit exposure to this chemical.

You need to know that formaldehyde is used in most clothing and textiles to prevent colors from running, and finished products are often treated with more formaldehyde to prevent wrinkles. You need to wash new clothes before you wear them in order to remove some of the chemical. If you want to avoid formaldehyde all together, you will need to switch to an all cotton wardrobe. You also need to realize that washing your clothes with Tide, Cheer, etc only adds chemicals to your clothes.

Nail polishes and hardeners often contain formaldehyde to improve their gloss and adhesion. The formaldehyde is released into the air while your nails are wet / drying.

Here are some other products in which formaldehyde is commonly found: over-the-counter medications, mouthwash, hair spray, cosmetics, cleaning products, perfumes, waxes, hair setting lotions, shampoo, air fresheners, fungicides, fingernail polish, floor polishes, Dry cleaning solvents, toothpaste, laundry spray starch, and antiperspirants, just to name a few.

Now here is an interesting fact about formaldehyde … Due to the increase in toxic buildup in our bodies, including the toxic buildup of formaldehyde, dead bodies are not decomposing as fast as they use to. Bodies use to decompose in 4 days but now they do not start to decompose for at least 7 days after death. While talking about dead bodies, you should also note that twice as much formaldehyde was needed to embalm a person 20 years ago compared to today.

As for Quaternium-15 … This chemical is commonly found in a variety of cosmetics including: foundations, powders, concealers, bronzers, makeup removers, blushes, eye shadows, eyeliners, eyebrow makeup, and mascaras (ie Avon® Advanced (Moisture ) Foundation Natural Finish Creme Powder and Max Factor® Quick Draw Magic Eyeliner Pen. Quaternium-15 is found in many cleansers, sunscreens (ie Banana Boat® Dark Tanning Lotion and Physicians Formula® Sun Shield Oil-Free), moisturizers, creams, lotions (ie U-Lactin® Lotion and Mary Kay® Angelfire Perfumed Body Lotion) , Shampoos (ie baby shampoos such as Johnson & Johnson® and Baby Magic®), soaps (ie Dove Beauty Bar), and other skin care products. It is also found in adhesives, paper, paperboard, inks, polishes, and latex paints.

Hospital Beds For Home Use

So the doctor says you or a loved one needs a hospital bed at home. “No problem,” you say to yourself, “I’ll just go online and buy one.” And then it happens…you become overwhelmed with the choices. And the more features you need the bed to have, the more confusing it gets.

But before you begin looking for that perfect bed, here are a few basics you need to know before you get started:

Hospital Bed or Home Care Bed:

A true hospital bed is just like the ones you see in the hospital. They have a lot of complex features and can cost up to tens of thousands of dollars. However, you may need a bed just like this. And in that case, a great choice is a refurbished unit. Hill-Rom is the gold standard for hospital beds and you can get a refurbished one for under $3000. But each model has unique features suited for different needs.

Now if you do need a traditional hospital bed, you need to consider where it will be in your home. These units are quite large and often won’t fit through doors or make it around tight corners. Some units are not recommended to be used in an upstairs room due to the above average weight.

But if you just need something with rails that has head and foot elevation capabilities, a home care bed is your perfect choice. These beds have the “look” of a traditional bed. Invacare is a popular choice for home care beds.

Electric or Manual:

Here’s another decision you’ll need to make. An electric version is much easier to use. The bed will raise and lower at a touch of a button. But of course the electric models are more expensive. So if you need to save money, a manual bed may be a good choice. But be careful…the caregiver will need to be able to manually crank the bed to raise and lower it. And if you still can’t decide, there are semi-electric versions available as well.

Mattress and Rails:

Some beds come with a mattress and rails and some don’t. This is something you need to be aware of with respect to your budget. Now if the bed does not come with a mattress, you’ll have the opportunity to choose the type of mattress you want.

Air and foam types are most popular. In fact, some of the pricier mattresses can actually help in the prevention of bed sores.

There may be several more things to consider but so many of that depends on your particular situation. The best way to handle having to purchase a hospital bed for home use is to speak with an expert. That way, an expert can identify your particular needs and find the perfect bed for your needs.

It’s too easy to buy the wrong type of bed without help. Don’t do it on your own. Get help and get the right bed.

Home Remodeling – Where Do I Start?

So you have decided to remodel your home? Not a bad idea at the moment. Lumber prices are extremely low compared to recent years. For some people, they already know exactly what they want to do.

Whether it is a kitchen or bath remodel, or maybe a deck added on outside. But what if you have one of those homes that need everything? A major overhaul project with no clear starting point.

In these cases it can become an overwhelming dilemma for some people but with a little bit of guidance it needs not be. First and foremost, you have to stay within your budget. Whether you are a do-it-yourself person, or you are going to hire a remodeling contractor, you have to live within your means.

Figure out what you can afford and go from there. If your budget is tight, then a lot of the more expensive remodeling projects can be put aside. Your options will be narrowed down considerably. But if money is no object let me firstly say lucky you and why are you fixing this old place anyway?

I always say start from the top down. If that roof of yours is looking a little weathered and maybe springing a leak or two, or maybe it is curling up and losing a few tabs here and there during those nasty windstorms, well then you better seriously consider a new roof as a top Priority before anything else. Once this is done you can rest easy once you start on the remodeling down below and do not have to worry about any damage to your freshly painted ceilings.

Another top of the list remodeling project would be to replace the windows and stay your house. Many people I know tend to the outer shell of the house first and work their way in from there. It makes a lot of sense too. Just like the roof, you need to get your house buttoned up and weather resistant before you put your hard-earned money inside of the home. Beside, remodeling your home can be a huge task and can knock the motivation out of the best of us. It sure does help though when you can pull in your driveway and at least see the progress you have made once the outside is done.

Once you do have the outside done then your real work begins. Depending on how crooked your house may be and how straight you wish it were going to be a determining factor in how hard this whole remodeling idea is and the potential headaches that come with it are. Once again, I say start from the top down especially if you are completely gutting your home. If not then pick a room and stick with it. Try not to start a bunch of different projects or your head will be spinning and nothing will seem to get done.

Bathrooms generally are the smallest rooms in the house but yet the most challenging and, next to the kitchen, the most expensive to remodel.

Plan ahead also. If you are living in your home, which I guess most of us do, and you are remodeling at the same time, the bathroom re-do can be a logistic challenge. Hopefully you have two bathrooms.

If not, be sure to keep in mind that having an operable shower and toilet by the end of the day would probably be a good idea!

10 Simple Home Security Tips

It's a good idea to think about home security, even if you are a renter or live in a condominium with a guard or in a gated community. Anyone can be a victim of theft, and if you are home when a burglar intrudes, the crime can escalate into something even more dangerous.

For the safety of you and your family, you may want to consider having a home security system installed, but there are also a lot of common-sense things you can do that do not involve spending a lot of money on fancy alerts or security Cameras. Let's take a look at some basic tips:

1. Secure garage doors and windows

While most people have solid doors and locks for front and back home entrances, they sometimes forget that garage doors should be of good quality as well. This includes walk-through doors and the doors for cars. Older automatic garage door openings were reliably easy to hack, so if your model is more than 15 or 20 years old, you may want to upgrade to a newer system that employs rolling codes.

Most garages have windows, and because this area tends to be father away from your living area than other parts of the house, a broken window is less likely to be heard. You may want to consider upgrading your windows to use security glass or shutters, but at least make sure locks are secure. Also watch out for entry doors with windows in or next to them, as these can be broken to allow a thief to stick an arm through and unlock the door from within.

2. Lock detached garages and storage sheds

Even if you do not keep anything particularly valuable in your garden shed, realize that thieves can walk in and grab tools such as hoes, axes, and shovels which can be used in breaking windows to allow entry into your house. Also, unsecured ladders should be locked up somewhere inside, as they can allow burglars access to second story windows, which many homeowners forget to close and lock.

3. Keep windows and doors locked

Speaking of windows, it's a good idea to keep them closed and locked when you're not at home (and if you live in a high-crime neighborhood, you may want to keep them locked when you're there as well). Also keep doors locked, even when you are home. In addition to regular knob locks, consider adding deadbolts for extra security against having a door kicked down.

4. Do not tempt burglars

Got a big plasma tv? A fancy car? Jewelry? That's fine, but do not temptation people into crimes of opportunity by allowing these items to be easily seen by anyone passing by your home. If you have valuable cars in your garage, consider curtains for the windows so people can not see in. Likewise, do not place expensive (and portable) items right in front of bedroom or living room windows.

5. Keep your yard well lit

Burglars prefer to work in dark and shadows, since they're less likely to be seen that way, so make sure your yard does not provide thieves a place to hide. Install outdoor lights with motion- or heat-detecting sensors, so they will turn on at night when someone approaches the house. The backyard, front yard, and side yards should all have security lighting. (For energy efficiency, get lights with motion / heat sensors rather than units that simply stay on all night.)

6. Cancel deliveries when out of town

Nothing invites a theft so much as a house with no one home. If you are going out of town, do not make it obvious to passing thieves. Have the paper and mail put on hold (in most areas, the post office will hold mail for up to 30 days, and you can simply go to the post office to pick it up when you get back) or have a sitter pick them up For you. Automatic lights that come on at night will also help fool burglars into thinking someone is home.

7. Change locks when moving into a new home

Even if you're a renter, it's a good idea to have the door locks changed when you move into a new house or apartment. Unless you are moving into new construction, you have no idea of knowing how many keys have been made over the years that fit your door.

8. Do not put your name and address on your keys

Keys get lost all the time, and you may think it's a good idea to have your name and address on your key ring (to help speed recovery), but all that really does is let the finder know where your house is, and now they Have the keys that open the front door. They could call you and tell you they've found your keys and to meet them at such-and-such a place and even as you're heading off to meet them, they are back at your house, letting themselves in to steal your Valuables.

9. Do not leave keys outside the house

To this day, a lot of people still leave spare sets of house keys under doormats, above door frames, under pots, rocks, etc. No matter how tricky you think you are being in choosing a concealing spot, a burglar can find it. Thievery is what they do for a living so of course they know all the tricks. If you're worried about losing your keys and not being able to get into your house, consider installing biometric door locks (these open your door with a thumbprint) or locks that open when PIN codes are entered.

10. Install a safety spy hole or "peep hole" at your front door

Even as a child, you were probably told never to open the door for strangers. This is prudent advice even for adults. In order to see who is at the door, consider installing a safety spy hole or peep hole. This makes it easy to see who's outside without them seeing in, and it's a reliably inexpensive home security upgrade.

As you can see from this list, there are a lot of home security precautions you can take that will make your house less of a target for thieves. In addition, they cost little or no money to implement, so what are you waiting for? Make your home safe!

Home Repair Permit: When Are They Needed?

If you are going to change your home, update it, build a new structure or repair it, you might be required a permit. You have to know if this is required ahead of time because this should be acquainted before you start the project. This will prevent you from facing charges and paying expensive fees. This is why it is essential to know whether a right is required or not.

But how are you going to know if it is necessary or not? The best way to find out is to consult your local building department if you are planning to renovate or repair your home because not all changes at home will require it. There are certain home alterations that do not need permit.

Importance:

Home repair permits are essential to ensure that homeowners or builders follow standards set by the local building department. Certain standard has to be followed if you want to ascertain the quality of work. Following the set standards and guidelines helps ensure the security of the project. In addition to that, permits are essential as they are used by third parties too. Insurance companies, for instance, would look for a ruling in case an accident or damage occurs. Without it, the insurance company will not cover the said loss or accident.

This is also necessary if you want to identify the current value of your home. Appraisers will not include the improvements in their computations if the homeowner can not present the required permission.

When do you need it?

You will need a permit whenever there is a major change in the house. If you are going to build a new structure, a permit will be necessary. If you are thinking of changing the electrical or the water system, you will also be required to acquire a permit. Any major change that will affect the structure and floor plan of the house will require a permit.

However, as mentioned earlier, permits are not always needed. There are repairs and improvements at home that will not need this. Simple changes like change the wall colors as well as the wood treatments in the house will not require such documents.

If you are going to hire a builder or a contractor, they will be responsible in acquiring permits. However, not all contractors and builders are liable. Some will want to cut back on expenses and workloads at your expense. If your builder says that a privilege is not necessary, check with your local building department to verify the information.

How to acquire repair permits?

Acquiring repair permits is easy. What is important is that you know the requirements and submit them during the application. However, requirements vary per state and city. It is best that you contact the local department to inquire about what you need present. After submitting the requirements, you will be asked to pay a certain fee. You will be granted the permission after your requirements are reviewed and approved.

Permits are essential to make sure that you or our builders followed the building codes and standards set by the local government. Ask your local government if a permission is needed before you start making repairs and alterations at home.

How to Get a Big Penis – Secret to Get a Big Penis at Home Exposed!

“How to Get a Big Penis?” Most men find themselves asking this question and this is largely because they are not satisfied with the size of their penises. Not only this, most men seem to think that penis enlargement is a myth and there is no way you can add inches to your genitalia.

However, this is not true. Male enhancement has come a long way from the time when only products that you could use were the old fashioned pumps and weight. New and highly advanced techniques have been developed to make your penis bit and thick without even thinking of an extreme measure like surgery or using bizarre products.

How to Get a Big Penis at Home

What determines the size of your erect penis, is the capacity of the erectile tissue to hold blood. This erectile tissue is called Corpora Cavernosa and lies at the top of your penis. When you get sexually exited, blood fills in this Corpora Cavernosa making your penis swell and achieve an erection. Any attempt at increasing the penis size is therefore directed at expanding Corpora Cavernosa.

The easiest and the most effective method of doing so is with the help of some simple exercises that are more popularly called Jelqs. These exercises are not new but they have existed in obscurity for long. However, it is now that such exercises are backed with clinical findings to suggest their efficacy in real and permanent penile enlargement.

Dr. Brian Richard conducted a study in which he found that almost 90% of the men who jelqed in a prescribed manner experienced real and natural penis growth after a few months. Not only this, when these men quit performing these exercises, there was no change or shrinkage in the size of their penises.

These exercises include certain stretching movements and your erectile tissue reacts to this stretching and pressure involved by expanding over time. This is called Tissue Expansion and is the same method that is used by certain tribal women to enlarge their necks. The same techniques works extremely well in case of the male penis as well.

These exercises resemble the milking motion and hence, they are also called Milking Exercises. The best past is that you can easily do them at home. All you need is access to a good Jelq routine online so that you know how to do these exercises properly.

A typical jelq schedule does not take more than 10 minutes a day and can help you add upto 3 inches within a few months.

However, success comes to those who are patient.

Tissue expansion or growth takes place at a slow speed. It can be frustrating at times when you do not experience any growth even after performing these exercises. However, what you need to keep in mind is that often periods of no or slow growth are followed with growth spurts which can take you by surprise.

How to Ensure Faster Penis Growth

Faster penis growth is achievable by combining natural penis pills with Jelqs. Such a combination provides amazing results not just in terms of penis growth but also in terms of improved erectile function and health.

There are many penis pills, however, top quality pills that really help penis growth contain some exclusive and rare ingredients such as Pomegranate 70% Ellagen.

Such pills not only increase blood flow to the penis but also help increase testosterone production, providing your body with all that it needs to sustain penis growth.

Pills that contain Pomegranate 70% Ellagen along with other ingredients such as l-arginine, maca, muira pauma, horny goat weed, omega 3 fatty acids etc., are proven to enhance the pace of penis growth by up to 53%.

This is truly incredible!

No wonder, such pills have become extremely popular. But this is not all!

Such pills now include free access to a highly advanced penis exercise guide as a bonus so as to ensure overall sexual enhancement for you.

Some of the benefits of such pills, therefore include:

  • faster penis growth of up to 3 inches and more
  • increased sexual stamina and rock solid erections

Manufactured Mobile Home – Making Yours Last a Lifetime!

How long your Manufactured Mobile Home sellers is mostly up to you. The secret is found in two words: Water and Foundation.

There are many things you can do to care for your home, but the killers most often are related to water exposure or foundations issues. Manage these and your manufactured / mobile home can last a life time.

Managing water exposure is more complicated then you might think. Potential water related issues are in all parts of your home, both inside and out. Swamp coolers, AC, plumbing (inside and under your home), as well as external sources from rain and watering can damage and destroy your home.

What can be done about it? First and foremost you need to keep a careful watch on all parts of your home: roof, walls, flooring, cabinets, sinks, tubs / showers, and under your home. A simple but thorough inspection can detect water. Remember, even constant water evaporation from a leaky pipe or water running under the home from improper drainage will rot all the wood in its vicinity. Key; Make sure you prevent water from reaching any where it does not belong. Where you can not prevent exposure to water, such as the exterior, insure all walls, window, doors, skirting / wall interfaces are caulked and painted properly.

The second key to the longevity of your home is insuring a proper foundation. Specifically the ground must be properly compacted and leased, your home tied-down, and the ground graduated to insure proper drainage. No water under the home is key to keeping a solid foundation.

In addition to the key elements discussed there are additional opportunities to preserve your home and its components.

Proper maintenance of a rubberized roof is critical. Applying a layer of protection materials every 2-3 years and completing any necessary repairs will reserve the roof coatings and help prevent leaks. Minor roof issues become major if not taken care of promptly. Maintaining the swamp cooler, the perennial roof damage creator, is critical every year. This includes winterizing and general preventative maintenance on the pads and water lines. Keeping the unit level to prevent leakage is a must.

A major area of concern is the interface between any wood based siding and the skirting top plate. It is important to keep this seal / joint caulked to prevent dry rot.

A good rule of thumb is to do an annual inspection yourself and have a professional inspect your home and report on any issues every 2-4 years.
